South Indian Banana Flower Curry | Vazhaipoo Usili Recipe

Banana Flower or Vazhaipoo is taken after it gets the maximum size. Banana Flower curry is scrambled with toor dhal and banana flowers.This is next put with chillis and spices.Banana fibers is rich in fibers and is an excellent food remedy for all stomach and intestine related diseases like constipation and gas.So this makes an ideal diet for constipation in all its forms.

 

Ingredients for Banana Flower Curry ( Vazhaipoo Usili )

 

1. Toor dhall ½ cup
2. Chana dhall ½ cup
3. Banana flower ½ salt to taste
4. Small onions 7
5. Red chilli 5
6. Sombu 1 tsp
7. Coconut grated 2 tsp
8. Mustard 1 tsp
9. Oil 2 tsp

 

How to prepare Banana Flower Usili Recipe

 

1. Wash and soak the dhalls for about one hour
2. Grind onions, chilli, sombu and coconut to a fine paste
3. Peel the flowers of banana and run through mixer coarsely with a little salt and squeeze if there is water
4. Grind the dhalls coarsely
5. Heat oil in a pan add mustard, grinded paste, grinded dhalls and the coarsely grinded banana leaf and mix well and cook till they are finely crumbled to pieces. Add salt if needed
